The Team
At the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, the Strategic Priorities and Corporate Initiatives (SPCI) team, which is part of the Deputy Minister’s office, is a dynamic group that shapes and supports major corporate initiatives, communications and integrated corporate planning. 

The SPCI team is responsible for developing the ministry's service plan and workforce plans, as well as implementation of these plans; ministry performance monitoring, measurement and reporting; and the ministry’s risk management program. Team SPCI also leads other strategic initiatives such as innovation, change management, culture/engagement, and human resources projects to foster an inclusive and supportive work environment. Communications services provided by the DMO include issues management, internal communications, public information (1-800 line and internet), and writing and editorial services. Team members joining this established team – a WES top work unit award winner – have a great entry point into the ministry and a platform to build a career in the public service.

The Role
The Program and Event Specialist is a key contributor to logistics and project management, coordinating teams and ensuring seamless operations. From supporting the organization of major events like the B.C. Cabinet and First Nations Leaders’ Gathering to facilitating corporate priorities that contribute to organizational culture, to critical administrative and financial tasks, this role creates a positive impact within the ministry. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a fun and unique team on meaningful projects that support reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples around the province.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Some post-secondary education or training in the area of project management, or equivalent.
  • Experience providing project management and coordination services for assigned projects.
  • Experience using project management principles and practices. 
  • Experience using communication principles and techniques. 
  • Experience planning events, including knowledge of corporate policies related to contracts, and travel.
     

Preference may be given to applicants with any of the following:

  • Experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities.
  • Candidates who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit).
     

Provisos:

  • Occasional travel to Victoria for work related events will be necessary. 
  • Travel to arrange venues and attend events.
  • Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check, and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the ministry (Note:  It is important that you read the job posting carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position).

About this Position:

There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available in Victoria.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work three (3) or more days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
