The Team
The Finance Division within the Corporate Management Services Branch (CMSB) is a skilled and diverse team that provides quality services to the Ministries of Attorney General, Public Safety & Solicitor General, and Housing. With over 100 team members, including three Chief Financial Officers (one per Ministry), this division handles budgeting, forecasting, funding proposals and more, ensuring that financial practices meet high standards. Known for its supportive, inclusive atmosphere, this team works closely with various officials, executives and governing bodies, making sure that financial processes are efficient and compliant with policies and laws. Their commitment to quality and teamwork has earned them recognition as a top work unit in 2024.

The Role
As the Chief Financial Officer & Executive Director, you will lead the financial strategy and operations of a Ministry, managing a substantial sector-budget of over $3 billion, in a sector with over 9,000 employees! Your role involves overseeing financial and procurement processes, ensuring compliance with regulations, and collaborating with partners to support the efficient and effective delivery of ministry programs. This position offers a chance to directly influence the financial stability and operational success of critical government functions, working in an inclusive and engaging environment that blends strategic leadership with practical, hands-on management. 

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Professional accounting designation CPA, issued by Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada). (Note: if your designation was obtained from outside of Canada, you will need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through CPA Canada).
  • Progressive experience establishing collaborative relationships with executives, senior financial leaders and senior managers associated with managing financial activities and/or leading financial management change.
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience in progressively more challenging leadership roles directing a wide range of activities, including two (2) or more of the following (preference may be given to applicants that have three (3) or more of the following):
    • infrastructure change 
    • business systems and controls 
    • policy 
    • budgeting 
    • accountancy 
    • performance management 
    • corporate risk 
    • legislative compliance
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience leading and coaching multi-disciplinary financial teams. 
     

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

  • Ten (10) or more years' progressive experience establishing collaborative relationships with executives, senior financial leaders and senior managers associated with managing financial activities and/or leading financial management change.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to three (3) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
