Description

The Team

At Ministry of Forests, you'll be joining the Strategic Analysis team, a group of dedicated scientists specializing in habitat analysis, landscape modelling, and climate change/adaptation modelling. As part of a small, collaborative team of 4 to 5 members, including forest landscape modellers, landscape ecologists, and biometricians, you'll work closely with other experts across the Analysis Section. Together, you’ll tackle diverse environmental challenges like resource management, wildlife ecology, and climate change/adaptation. We are committed to advancing an inclusive and progressive analysis program that informs sustainable forest management decisions.

The Role

In this role at the Forest Analysis and Inventory Branch, you'll provide leadership and expertise to advance a progressive analysis program that shapes decisions on forest management and natural resource conservation across the province. As the provincial expert, you'll collaborate with government and external stakeholders on critical issues like forest stewardship, wildlife habitat, and climate change/adaptation. This position offers the unique opportunity to lead a team of scientists and drive research that promotes sustainable forest management while supporting diverse ecological and community values.


Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements

 

  • MSc or PhD in Forestry, or an appropriate scientific discipline, and 5 years of related experience.
  • At least 3 years' experience in spatially explicit wildlife habitat and/or forest landscape model development and modeling.
  • Experience directing and conducting research from start to finish, including analyzing and evaluating scientific or technical data related to forestry, environmental or natural resource management, scientific modelling, and collaborating with other scientists and professionals.
  • Experience organizing and managing complex concurrent projects/initiatives.
  • Experience supervising, leading, coaching and mentoring technical and professional staff.
  • Experience preparing a variety of documents and presentations to technical and non-technical audiences, such as policy or guidelines, ministerial correspondence, issue papers and reports.

About this Position:

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
