The Team
The Indigenous Economic Development Branch within the Reconciliation Transformation and Strategies Division is a small, dedicated team of three members, reporting to the Executive Director. This established team plays a pivotal role in advancing Indigenous economic development opportunities and ensuring alignment with the Declaration Act. Working collaboratively with other analysts, directors, and executive leaders, the team is integral in fostering cross-government coordination and building meaningful partnerships with First Nations communities and Indigenous Organizations across British Columbia. The work is dynamic and varied, offering numerous opportunities to contribute to reconciliation and support Indigenous Peoples' economic priorities.

The Role
As a Senior Advisor, Economic & Reconciliation Initiative, you will play a critical role in shaping strategic policies that drive economic development opportunities for Indigenous Peoples in British Columbia. Your work will involve leading complex research and analysis, advising on key policy areas, and collaborating with various ministries and governments to ensure thoughtful and thorough policy implementation. This role offers the unique opportunity to engage directly with Indigenous People, contributing to initiatives like Nationhood Rebuilding and the co-design of wellness metrics, making a tangible impact on reconciliation efforts and the lives of Indigenous Peoples across the province.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a related discipline (Indigenous studies, public administration, business administration, law, economics, social sciences, natural resource management or equivalent) and two (2) years combined relevant experience; OR Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years combined relevant experience.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.
  • Relevant experience must include:
    • Experience in the development of legislation, regulation and policy.
    • Experience in planning and coordinating complex projects/assignments.
    • Experience in concisely and persuasively writing a range of documents/content.

Preference may be given to:

  • Applicants of Indigenous heritage with the required combination of education and experience.
  • Applicants with experience working directly with First Nations, communities, and/or Indigenous Organizations.
  • Applicants with experience managing policies, programs and initiatives relating to First Nations.

This is a temporary opportunity until 04/04/2025. This position may be extended or become permanent.
