The Team
The Information Technology (IT) Service Desk Team at the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR) plays a crucial role in enabling digital transformation within the ministry. By providing innovative technology and governance solutions, the well established team ensures seamless sharing of information and enhances citizen access to vital programs and services. Their commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is reflected in its collaborative work with diverse communities, including First Nations, to support emergency management activities across British Columbia. 

The Role
The Business Analyst plays a key role in driving IT-related projects and supporting the EMCR IT Service Desk team. This position involves managing and delivering corporate-level projects, such as the Windows 11 rollout and updating communication systems, while also assisting with daily service desk operations. This role provides support based on various project management methodologies and works in an agile environment, ensuring high-quality service delivery. Additionally, the Business Analyst emphasizes collaboration with a diverse range of stakeholders, embodying the ministry’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Certificate in computer science, business, public administration, or a related field and three (3) years *related work experience, OR 
  • An equivalent combination of education and *related work experience may be considered.


*Related work experience must include three (3) or more of the following:

  • Experience working within agile software development teams on cyclical sprint releases (ie gathering business requirements, writing tickets for developers, running user acceptance testing).
  • Experience in change management processes and/or project management methodologies.
  • Experience providing business analysis, requirements gathering, testing, supporting and/or maintaining for complex systems/services which have multi-ministry stakeholders or multiple lines of business.
  • Experience working on technical projects, project teams, working within project timelines, working with contractors and/or consultants.
  • Experience leading helpdesk/service desk teams.


Preference may be given to applicants with any of the following:

  • Experience with technical implementation projects.
  • Experience providing customer support in an information technology environment or helping clients to use and understand technical applications.
  • Experience working on a helpdesk/service desk team.
  • Experience leading teams/projects.

About this Position:
This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness offices: Saanichton, Victoria, Kamloops, Nelson, Prince George, Surrey or Smithers.
This is a temporary opportunity until March 31, 2025. This position may be extended or become permanent.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to five (5) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
