Description

The Team
The Certification Unit is a close-knit team of approximately 25 staff members who play a vital role in evaluating teacher applicants for certification in B.C. As part of this established team, you’ll collaborate with the ministry's workforce team and external partners such as school districts and teachers. Your work will have a direct impact on ensuring qualified teachers are prepared to lead classrooms, supporting B.C.’s world-class education system and contributing positively to the future of education.

The Role
As an Evaluator, you will review a caseload of domestic and international teacher certification applications, ensuring they meet the standards set by legislation and regulations. You’ll gather and verify information from a variety of sources, communicate with applicants and partners, and make decisions on certification approvals. This role has a positive impact on maintaining B.C.'s world-class education system by supporting teachers and schools, while offering varied and interesting work in researching education systems from different countries.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • University Degree in a related field.
  • Experience interpreting and applying legislation, regulations and/or policies. 
  • Experience managing a case load with varying degrees of complexity. 
  • Experience handling client inquiries with tact, diplomacy and sound judgement by telephone, email and in person.


Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Additional years of experience in the required experience areas listed above. 
  • Experience in national and international transcript and credential evaluation, and fraudulent documents detection.
  • Experience within the Education sector.
  • A valid BC Ministry of Education Professional Certificate of Qualification or have relevant teaching experience in the K-12 public or independent school system within the last ten years.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to four (4) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
