The Team
The Information Services team at BC Parks is a dedicated and collaborative group of ten professionals plus a manager, focused on delivering reliable and accessible park visitor information. This team manages various platforms like bcparks.ca, handles general inquiries, and supports internal IT systems. They work closely with other BC Parks staff, including regional operations and public-facing teams, to ensure visitors and staff receive accurate, timely information. With a strong emphasis on service and mutual support, the team values inclusivity and prides itself on making a positive impact on every visitor's experience.

The Role
As a Web & Information Specialist, you'll play a crucial part in managing public inquiries through the ParkInfo system and curating engaging content for BC Parks' social media channels, such as Facebook, Instagram, and our blog. You will also handle digital systems, ensuring our websites and Customer Relationship Management tools are well-managed and aligned with our brand standards. This position is key in shaping the park visitor experience, requiring a positive and supportive approach to interact effectively with the public. Candidates will find excitement in connecting directly with millions of visitors, learning about BC Parks, and collaborating with a dedicated team. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • A degree in computer science or related discipline (web design, natural resource sciences, marketing, communications) and one (1) year related experience with web applications, web design and / or development, marketing or communications; OR, 
  • A diploma in computer science or related discipline (web design, natural resource sciences, marketing, communications), and a minimum of two (2) years’ related experience with web applications, web design and / or development, marketing or communications; OR, 
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and related experience with web applications, web design and / or development, marketing or communications may be considered.
  • Experience writing and editing internal and public facing communications materials for print and digital channels.
  • Experience with graphic design, web programming, and the design, development and maintenance of websites.
  • Experience using professional web software and hardware, including web publishing tools.
  • Experience in a range of partner management, complaints management and communications functions within a corporate environment.
  • Experience using social media tools for promotional purposes (Facebook, Instagram, Blog sites).
  • Experience working with internal and external partners.
  • Experience working with a client base to identify project needs and develop creative web ideas and initiatives. 
  • Preference may be given to individuals with experience working in a National, Provincial, Regional, or Municipal park setting, or similar environment.

About this Position:
This position can be based in any Natural Resource Ministry (NRM) or BC Parks office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations. Please see Natural Resource Sector Locations – Flexible Work document attachment.
This is a temporary opportunity until May 31st, 2025. A permanent appointment may result from this temporary appointment.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to five (5) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
