Description
The position has full responsibility for the design and development of strategies - both short and long term - to deliver BC Parks’ recreation goals in a region. The position analyzes park management plans recommendations and develops recreation objectives that can be achieved within a short and medium-time frame.
The position has full responsibility for determining how capital investments in recreation facilities can help BC Parks meet its strategic recreation goals, both regionally and provincially. The position seeks input from regional staff when developing both short term and long-term capital investment strategies that meet BC Parks’ recreation goals. The position develops and prioritizes capital investment proposals for regional review and support, program review and support, and final executive approval.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
- Master’s Degree in Engineering, Parks Management, Outdoor Recreation, Natural Resource Management, Science or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; OR,
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and a minimum of 4 years of related experience; OR,
- Technical Diploma or Certificate in a related field and a minimum of 7 years of related experience.
- Other combinations of related training, education and experience may be considered.
Related Experience includes the following:
- Experience in related resource management such as recreation, integrated resource management, and/or natural resource management.
- Experience using contract management tools, techniques, templates and processes.
- Experience in managing a diversity of complex projects simultaneously following program delivery management techniques including setting priorities, managing resources (e.g. budgets) and service contracts to achieve business goals and objectives.
- Experience in strategic planning, goal setting, resource allocation and developing performance measurement tools.
- Experience in facilitating and resolving conflicting goals with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience in supervising professional staff, volunteers, project managers and contractors in program delivery.
- Exceptional people management skills, including demonstrated experience in coaching, team building and mentoring.
Preference may be given for one or more of the following:
- Experience in parks or recreation site management.
- Experience in recreation facility development and maintenance management.
- Experience in engineering and construction.
- Experience in procurement and contract management.
- Experience in negotiations, mediation and conflict resolution.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement
