The Role
As a Paralegal with the BC Prosecution Service, you'll support Crown Counsel on large, complex, and high-profile cases that directly shape the delivery of justice and the achievement of Branch and Ministry objectives. Your role will involve managing case information, disclosure, and redaction; conducting preliminary research and analysis; summarizing key material; coordinating communication among case parties; and training others in procedures and technology. You'll also contribute to Branch-wide projects and initiatives, showcasing your expertise and leadership.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

Paralegal Growth (Level 1-2)

  • Three years of experience working in a legal office environment or equivalent.
  • One year of post-secondary education (with an academic focus) in a related field.
  • Preference may be given to those currently enrolled in a Paralegal Citation Program, Paralegal Certificate Program or Paralegal Diploma Program.
  • Preference may be given to those with experience working as a Legal Assistant or Major Trial Legal Assistant in the area of criminal law or a criminal justice setting.

Paralegal Growth (Level 3-4)

  • Four years of experience working in a legal office environment or equivalent.
  • One year of post-secondary education (with an academic focus) in a related field.
  • Completion of one year of the Paralegal Citation Program, Paralegal Certificate Program or Paralegal Diploma Program.
  • Preference may be given to those with experience working as a Legal Assistant or Major Trial Legal Assistant in the area of criminal law or a criminal justice setting.

Paralegals at level 3-4 typically work with greater independence and are assigned more complex and sensitive prosecution files than Paralegals at level 1-2.

Full Working Level (Paralegal 18)

  • Secondary school graduation and completion of a recognized Paralegal Certificate, Paralegal Diploma, or Paralegal Citation.
  • Five years of experience working in a legal office environment.
  • Preference may be given to those with experience working as a Legal Assistant, Major Trial Legal Assistant or Paralegal/Paralegal Growth in criminal law or a criminal justice setting.
  • Preference may be given to those who have completed their Paralegal Certificate, Paralegal Diploma or Paralegal Citation.

Preference may be given to applicants who meet the full working level.

Paralegals at the full working level typically work independently and in close collaboration with Crown Counsel and are assigned more complex/sensitive prosecution files.

About this Position:
There is one (1) position available in Kelowna.
An eligibility list may be established for future permanent and/or temporary vacancies in the following locations: Kelowna, Vernon and Kamloops.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
Enhanced Security Screening will be required.
