Description

The Team
The newly established Kootenay Boundary Strategic Initiatives - Forest Landscape Planning team is a dynamic and innovative group driving meaningful change in forest management. You’ll collaborate closely with First Nations partners, government representatives, and other stakeholders to develop a Forest Landscape Plan that balances environmental, social, and economic goals, using a collaborative approach to modernizing forest management in the Kootenay Lake TSA.

The Role
As the Land and Resource Specialist- Forest Landscape Planning, you will support the development of forest landscape plan outcomes and guidelines, working closely with First Nations partners, licensees, and stakeholders. Your work will contribute to a transparent and inclusive planning process, helping to shape sustainable forest management practices. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a collaborative effort that prioritizes long-term stewardship of natural resources, fostering meaningful partnerships with First Nations to create lasting impact.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • A Technical Diploma in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management) or an equivalent combination of education/training plus, 5 or more years’ experience working in a natural resource discipline.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience managing natural resource management projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project or regional initiative.
  • Experience in managing multi-disciplinary/multiple partner projects in which innovative solutions were implemented to solve a unique or complex natural resource management problem.
  • Experience related to First Nations engagement, collaboration and relationship building. 
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.

Preference may be given to those with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Experience in coordinating and leading the development of forest landscape plans or other strategic management plans consistent with government policy and regulations.
  • Experience in effectively resolving conflicts around sensitive issues.
  • Experience in chairing meetings, and/or facilitating committees, planning tables, or technical tables with First Nations and stakeholders.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home up to 2 days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
This is a temporary opportunity until March 31, 2026. This position may be extended.
This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
