The Team
Court Services Branch is responsible for the delivery of all court administration services in British Columbia and for supporting timely and equitable access to the court system.
The Vancouver Provincial Court and Downtown Community Court team is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual who exemplifies the professional values of the BC Public Service, to join their team as an Operations Manager (In-Court).
As an established team, they foster a collaborative and professional environment that values diversity and inclusion as well as service excellence and equitable delivery of court services. In this role, you will report to the Senior Manager and manage a dynamic team including 3 circuit court locations.
The Role
The Manager of Operations is a key leader in planning and managing court programs, ensuring they align with legislation and policies while supporting equitable access to justice for all. This role oversees diverse responsibilities, from human resource management and technology implementation to financial and records management, while also contributing to the court’s operations as a Justice of the Peace. As part of a collaborative and inclusive management team, the Manager of Operations helps foster a welcoming environment where diversity is celebrated, and innovative solutions are embraced to serve the community better.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Secondary school graduation or equivalent (GED), preferably supplemented with post-secondary courses in a related field, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience within the justice or legal system.
- Minimum of three (3) years of recent experience working in a legal environment, or two (2) years of experience working in Court Administration
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in keyboarding, data entry, word processing, standard computer applications and software programs (ex: Windows, MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience within the last 2 years in a legal environment or court administration.
- Experience in personnel management, human resources, policy and contractual interpretation, program planning and project management.
- Experience in budget/FTE, resource management and risk management.
- Must have or be able to obtain certification as a Deputy District Registrar in the Supreme Court of British Columbia within six (6) months (if a Supreme Court Location).
- Must have or be able to obtain a commission as a Justice of the Peace in the Province of British Columbia within six (6) months.
Preference may be given to candidates with:
- Experience within the justice or legal system.
- Extensive knowledge of court services structure, policies and procedures and branch mandate and strategic priorities.
- Experience in Court Programs and Applications (JUSTIN, CEIS, CCD, ARC, CTAS).
- Experience as a Court Clerk and/or Registry Clerk.
- Experience as a Deputy District Registrar for Supreme Court.
- Experience as a Justice of the Peace.
PROVISOS
- Attendance and completion of relevant training is required.
- May be required to work flexible hours, including varied shifts and overtime on short notice.
- May be required to travel, including travel in adverse weather conditions and work in other geographical areas, including circuit court locations.
- Must have reliable transportation and/or be willing to travel with others.
- Ability to lift heavy objects up to 30 lbs.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
