Program Overview
The First Nations Government Exchange Program facilitates temporary exchanges of employees between the BC Public Service and B.C. First Nations Governments. The FNGEP aims to deepen and enrich the understanding that BC Public Service employees have of BC First Nations government general operations and enable BCPS employees to share their technical skills and contribute in meaningful ways to BC First Nation Government organizations.

Job Overview
The Nisga’a Lisims Government is a modern treaty nation located in northwestern British Columbia, along the Nass River Valley. The Communications and Content Advisor is a member of the Intergovernmental Relations team along with a Manager, Youth Coordinator and Assistant. The core activities of the role involve dynamic digital content management, graphic design, weekly meetings with working groups, committees, and providing communications to support government administration. The Communications and Content Advisor will play a critical role in connecting the Nisga’a Lisims Government administration with its audiences, including the Nisga’a Nation, Provincial and Federal Government partners, internal organizations, industries and media outlets. The position requires a skilled writer capable of creating concise and effective messages, aligned with emerging trends and technologies.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations.
  • Two or more years of experience in business communications, public speaking, media writing, digital communications and marketing.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Preference maybe given to applicants with a valid BC Driver’s License.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to prioritize, organize and manage a workload including concurrent multi-initiatives with changing deadlines.
  • Highly organized and structured with clear attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of business communication, public speaking, media writing, digital communication, and marketing skills.
  • Understanding of Indigenous cultures is an asset.

About this Position:
This is an opportunity for a BCPS employee to go on a secondment into a position within the Nisga’a Lisims Government until approximately August 2026.
To be eligible for this opportunity, you must be a permanent BC Public Service employee who has completed probation in your current role and have your supervisor's support to apply.
