Description

The Team
The Bulkley Fire Zone is in the Northwest Fire Centre and has bases in Telkwa and Hazleton. The zone has 2 Unit Crews and 4 Initial Attack Crews, all working together to strengthen wildfire response. Beyond the job, the team fosters a supportive atmosphere, with plenty of opportunities to connect through outdoor activities and community events. The Role
As a Wildfire Technician, you will be focused on wildfire response and preparedness activities within the zone. Other priorities may include crew development, prevention, and community engagement.  Your work plays a crucial role in natural disaster mitigation, primarily fire suppression, directly impacting community safety. This position offers the chance to lead in emergency situations and make a meaningful difference for others.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Grade 12 plus 5 years *related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and *related experience may be considered.
         *Related experience is defined as operations or other disciplines directly involved in wildfire management and/or response.
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience.
  • Valid class 5 B.C. driver licence or equivalent.
     
  • Preference may be given to candidates with Incident Commander 3 or higher.

  • To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures.To keep current on emerging issues.
  • To take in-house training and certification as required.
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
  • To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
  • To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned.
  • To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.
  • To obtain and maintain certification and training for position to meet operational requirements.

This position has full time on-site requirements. 
This position may be located in Telkwa or Hazelton.
