The Team
The Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre (Maples) provides specialized community programs as well as live-in treatment services (serving the entire province) and works with youth in British Columbia with significant psychiatric and behavioural difficulties, ages 12 to 17, as well as youth found Not Criminally Responsible by Reason of a Mental Disorder (NCRMD) or unfit to stand trial. Additional services include community consultation service, training/capacity building opportunities and ongoing sharing of current literature. Through a multi-disciplinary approach, our objective is to collaboratively enhance the capacity of communities to plan and care for challenging youth through a closer to home focus.
On-site programs operate 24/7 providing a period of clinical evaluation, stabilization, intervention and follow-up in a structured setting as well as support for families/caregivers and the development of a plan of care. Program areas operate with a multidisciplinary team of social workers, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and childcare counsellors.
The Role
Under the direction of a Program Co-ordinator, and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, the Shift Supervisor provides supervision and direction to Child Care Counselor R18 staff and Psychiatric/Registered nurses to ensure comprehensive delivery of services. This position also carries out pre-assessment and treatment services for youth significantly impacted by thought disordered or conduct disordered youth admitted to the Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelors level degree in Social Sciences, Social Work, Nursing or Child and Youth Care. An equivalent* combination of education and experience may be considered.
- NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
- 18 months or more of experience working within the service delivery system for difficult to manage or psychiatrically ill individuals throughout the province (i.e. in various social services such as child protection, services for community living, youth justice and/or community mental health services).
- 6 months or more of supervisory experience within the last 18 months.
- 18 months or more of residential care and direct support experience.
*Equivalences for Education & Experience
- Extensive residential care experience in a psychiatric setting with severely conduct disordered or thought disordered adolescents and/or equivalent community-based experience.
- Progressive experience in various social services such as child protection, services for community living, youth justice and community mental health services.
- Courses in management, human resources and health care administration, or other related.

The Maples operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Successful applicants will be required to work: Day shifts (7:00am-15:17pm, 7:45am-16:02, 8:30-16:45), evening shifts (15:00-23:17, 16:00-24:00), weekends (7:30-19:30, 19:30-7:30), midnights (22:45-08:00), holidays, and a variety of shifts patterns.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
