The Team
The Technology, Information, Privacy and Security (TIPS) team delivers ministry-wide support for information security, privacy management, and workplace technology, ensuring compliance with B.C. Government policies and legislation. It plays a key role in managing technology assets, supporting incident response, and protecting ministry data. Comprised of a diverse team of analysts and led by a director, TIPS is dedicated to continuous improvement and excellence in service delivery.
The Role
The Ministry Privacy Officer (MPO) leads the development and enforcement of the ministry’s privacy policies, ensuring alignment with relevant standards and legislation. This role oversees privacy infrastructure, manages projects to enhance compliance, and maintains strong connections with central agencies and client organizations. By promoting best practices and fostering key relationships, the MPO plays a vital role in protecting citizen data and supporting ministry programs.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Technology (IT) and/or Information Management (IM). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in each of the following:
- Administering the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA) and the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA)
- Developing enterprise privacy policy frameworks, and/or involved in day-to-day decision making in the context of privacy legislation/regulations (e.g. FOIPPA).
- Relating business requirements to privacy regulations.
- Identifying and evaluating privacy risks from a business and technological standpoint.
- Managing confidential issues with tact and diplomacy.
- Recent experience (within 12 months) conducting Privacy Impact Assessments.
Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
- Recent experience (within 12 months) with the reporting and management of privacy incidents.
- Certification thru the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), or equivalent (as per below):
- CIPT – Certified Information Privacy Technologist
- CIPP/C – Certified Information Privacy Professional / Canada
- CIPM – Certified Information Privacy Manager
