Description

The Team
WCAT is an independent, quasi-judicial tribunal that workers or employers can go to if they want to appeal a decision from WorkSafeBC. WCAT is the final level of appeal in the B.C. workers’ compensation system. It has authority to decide appeals about specific types of work-related matters outlined in section 288 and 289 of the Workers Compensation Act. The Role
The Appeal Coordinator manages the file building process for appeals and applications. The position is the primary liaison between WCAT and all participants in an appeal including self-identified Indigenous parties, unrepresented parties, representatives, WorkSafeBC and other providers after registration to completion of the appeal. The Appeal Coordinator ensures the efficient delivery of adjudicative services in accordance with WCAT’s 180-day statutory time frame for decision-making as well as the administrative law requirements for fair procedure. The incumbent is responsible for managing an individual caseload of appeals and applications, many of which are complex and may require special handling. 

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in a related discipline; or

  • An equivalent combination of five (5) years of administrative experience including:

    • a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in an administrative body, court services or workers’ compensation or a combination of. 

  • One year (1) experience providing client service to persons suffering from trauma, or with potential language or accessibility barriers.

  • Two (2) years’ experience interpreting legislation and explaining rules, policies and procedures. 

  • Two (2) years’ experience managing a diverse and fluctuating caseload and meeting established time frames/deadlines.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home three days per week subject to an approved telework agreement. 
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
This position is excluded from union membership.
