Description
The Team
The BC Wildfire Service’s Kootenay Lake Fire Zone is an Initial Attack Base. It is a close-knit crew of 23 where high morale and camaraderie drive impactful work. The Wildfire Crew Supervisor day to day supervision of IA staff with a ‘boots on the ground’ connection to the zone’s IA crews and wildfire response objectives.
The Role
As an Initial Attack Supervisor, you will begin the season by onboarding and training new crew members to prepare them for wildfire response. Once fire season begins, your focus will shift to managing day-to-day crew operations, ensuring safety, and coordinating suppression activities in a dynamic environment. This is a field-based role with a strong emphasis on staff development and operational effectiveness. The successful candidate will either be qualified or will receive training to deploy as a Strike Team Leader for crew modules.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Diploma plus 2 seasons forest fire related experience; or
- Grade 12 plus 4 seasons forest fire related experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered; and
- Minimum 2 seasons of supervisory experience; and
- Valid Basic First Aid* (formally known as First Aid Ticket OFA Level 1) with Transportation endorsement; and
- Successful completion of pre-employment fitness standard; and
- Maintain personal weights standards as required for crew type; ie Hover exit weight; and
- Valid Class 5 drivers license
Preference may be given to candidate with one of more of the following:
- Qualified Faller Trainer Certification
- Qualified Faller Certification
- Certified as Incident Commander 4 or higher

- To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments, and corporate structures.
- To keep current on emerging issues.
- To take in-house training and certification as required.
- To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
- To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
- To travel and/or overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
- To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned
