The Team
The Analytics Office Branch supports ministry decision makers by providing insight and recommendations based on structured analyses and research. In support of the policy, program and performance management needs of the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD), the Office provides expertise and leads or initiates work in data provision, quantitative research, economic analysis, econometric forecasting and modelling, performance measurement and continuous improvement, policy development.
The Role
As an Economist you will design and implement complex statistical analysis and economic modelling projects, and advise senior executives on matters directly impacting goals, objectives and financial commitments of MCFD or Government. Reporting to the Senior Economist of Workforce Analytics, the Economist will be responsible for Ministry-wide and Social Sector economic analysis and decision support research.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Economics or a specialized field of economics (e.g., Economic Development, Financial Economics, International Economics) or an equivalent Master’s Degree or PhD in a closely related field (e.g., Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics).
- Two years of related experience including all the following:
- Experience in the design and implementation of statistical analysis and economic modelling projects.
- Work experience in designing, implementing, and optimizing repeatable algorithms using R or Python.
- Work experience with relational databases and large administrative data sets using Structured Query Language (SQL).
- Preparing and presenting the results of complex statistical and/or economic analysis through written summaries, reports and visual analytics to senior management and executives.
- Satisfying client or stakeholder requests in a high-volume work analytical environment.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Experience using R for data manipulation, automation, and/or statistical analysis.
- More years of work experience.

About this Position:
This is a 7 month temporary opportunity. This position may be extended or become permanent.
This position can be based in any Ministry of Children and Family office based on space availability. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 4 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
