The Team
Our newly formed Desk Audit Team within the Ministry of Finance is a dynamic group focused on ensuring accurate tax compliance. This team consists of six dedicated team members, led by one team leader. We value collaboration, thorough analysis, and clear communication, fostering a supportive environment for professional growth and meaningful contributions to public service. You'll also have opportunities to work with the Inspection team and other Revenue Division teams. Your efforts will directly support our mission of promoting voluntary compliance and ensuring taxpayers are well-informed and compliant with tax legislation. The Role
In this role, you will supervise staff, develop audit procedures, conduct audits, and ensure compliance with legislation. The Desk Audit Team Leader resolves disputes, approve expenditures, and foster a collaborative work environment. Your efforts will ensure fair tax compliance and accurate assessments, enhancing public trust and clarity for citizens and businesses. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Certificate or higher in a related discipline such as financial management, administrative law, investigation and enforcement; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of 4 years audit, inspection and/or accounting experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years audit/inspection experience in a consumption taxes environment.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience interpreting and applying legislation.
  • Experience working with the application of policy and procedures to encourage voluntary compliance.
  • Experience working independently in the field.
  • Valid Class 5, BC driver’s license or equivalent, with no L restrictions.


Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • A Professional accounting designation CPA - CA, CGA, CMA, issued by a Canadian Accounting Association. (Note: If your designation was obtained from outside of Canada, you will need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through an applicable Canadian Accounting Association.)
  • Supervisory experience in a unionized environment. 
  • Experience working in the Gentax system.

About this Position:
Currently there is one (1) permanent opportunity available.
This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Finance offices: Vancouver, Surrey, Prince George, Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, Kamloops, Kelowna, Cranbrook, Victoria or Nanaimo.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to five (5) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
