The Team

Join the Electricity Policy Branch (EPB), an established and collaborative team of 18 professionals within the Electricity and Utility Regulatory Division (EURD). We bring together policy analysts, economists, Indigenous relations leads, and senior leadership to support critical work in electricity policy, BC Hydro oversight, and advancing low-carbon energy solutions for the province. The Role

As a Senior Economist with the Electricity Policy Branch, you will play a key role in shaping B.C.’s clean energy future by providing expert economic analysis and strategic policy advice on electricity transmission and trade. This work has a direct impact on supporting the Province’s net-zero goals—ensuring renewable energy is delivered reliably and equitably to where it’s needed most. You will collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders across government, industry, utility regulators, academics, and communities, including Indigenous partners, to help guide sustainable investment and infrastructure decisions. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • A Master’s Degree in Economics or a related field such as statistics, mathematics, business administration, commerce, public administration, engineering, natural resource management or equivalent.
  • Five years of related work experience in natural resource and energy industry analysis.
  • At least two years of experience in policy analysis and development, legislative processes and inter-governmental procedures.
  • At least two years of experience in economic, social, or environmental impact analysis, evaluations and recommendations related to the energy industry in a Ministry or significant program area.
  • Experience preparing briefing materials, legislative documents, Treasury Board and Cabinet submissions and public presentations.

Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • Electricity market experience related to the analysis of market conditions and drivers impacting power markets and/or utilities in the Western Interconnect;
  • Experience supervising staff including the assignment and evaluation of work and fostering the development and growth of employees;
  • Education or work experience directly related to energy policy or clean fuels; and/or
  • Demonstrated experience in quantitative analysis.
