The Team
At the Abbotsford Law Courts, you will join the established Supreme Court, Deputy District Registrars team—a small, collaborative group of three professionals who bring diverse backgrounds and experiences to their work. This team plays a vital role in supporting Supreme Court sittings and works closely with a wider Civil registry team of 10 staff, including Small Claims and Family Registry Clerks, clerical support, and other justice partners. We value the strong relationships within the team and their commitment to providing inclusive, respectful service to the public and the broader justice system.

The Role
As a Registry Technician, Deputy District Registrar, you will take on a unique and respected role within the court system, making independent decisions that directly impact individuals and families in your community. After completing specialized training within your first six months, you'll be certified to review and adjudicate Supreme Court matters outside of trial, such as probate grants and default orders. This position combines teamwork with autonomy and offers meaningful work supported by strong leadership, training, and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in serving the public.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent (e.g. GED). 
  • Two (2) years recent experience working in a legal environment; OR, one (1) year experience working in Court Administration.
  • Experience using computers and software programs (e.g. Windows, MS Word, Excel).
  • Must be able to qualify for signing authority as a Deputy District Registrar within six (6) months of appointment to the position.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • One (1) year of experience working in Court Administration.
  • Experience working in Civil Programs.
  • Experience working in Civil Electronic Information System (CEIS).
  • Signing authority as a Deputy District Registrar.

Proviso/Willingness Statements:

  • Must be willing to complete relevant training programs.
  • May be required to travel, including travel in adverse weather conditions and work in other geographical areas, including circuit court locations.  Must have reliable transportation and/or be willing to travel with others.
  • May be required to work flexible hours on short notice, including varied shifts.
  • May be required to work overtime on short notice.
  • May be required to work in other areas of Court Services Branch.
