The Team
The BC Prosecution Service (BCPS) helps protect society by independently, impartially, and fairly conducting prosecutions and appeals at all levels of court. Crown Counsel pre-approve charges and prosecute offences under the Criminal Code, provincial statutes and regulations, and federal statutes, in accordance with BCPS policies and the Crown Counsel Act.
The Role
As the only non-legal excluded manager within the region, the Deputy Director, Regional Operations is accountable for managing a diverse portfolio of operational and legal support services with a direct impact on front-line operations. This includes resource management, budgeting, staffing, human resource management, and facilities management for the region. The Interior Region is comprised of approximately 123 Crown Counsel prosecutors, paralegals and legal professional staff across 7 geographically dispersed offices. The Deputy Director, Regional Operations position has a dual reporting relationship, reporting directly to the Director, Business Operations while also working closely with the Regional Crown Counsel to respond to operational requirements within the region.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in Business Management, Public Administration, Finance, Commerce, or other related and equivalent education OR a combination of related and equivalent education and experience.
- Completion of financial management courses/training OR experience in financial management, which may include financial business planning, budget management, revenue and expenditure forecasting, contract administration, and/or establishing internal financial controls.
- Minimum of three years (preference for five years) of recent (within the past seven years) progressive related experience in a leadership role.
Progressive related experience includes at least 3 of the following:
- Experience in program planning and balancing program objectives with priorities and budgets;
- Experience developing operational policies and procedures to ensure effective program management;
- Experience implementing corporate initiatives in a large, multi-faceted organization;
- Experience managing complex organizational resource challenges (e.g. people, materials, assets, budget);
- Experience supervising/leading in a professional environment (e.g. managing workloads and employee performance, coaching and mentoring, goal setting and leading the resolution of HR/performance issues);
- Experience championing and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to reflect the changing needs of the organization;
- Experience effectively consulting with and guiding senior leadership teams to develop employees in order to drive efficiencies and enhance services to further the goals of the organization.
Preference may be given to applicants with experience in the criminal justice sector.

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until November 30, 2025. A permanent appointment may result from this temporary appointment.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
