The Team
The Performance Budgeting Office (PBO) is made up of four pods within Treasury Board Staff that provides expert advice on ministry operating and capital spending budgets and three-year plans, and identifies, monitors, and manages risks and opportunities facing these plans. PBO works collaboratively with senior leaders across government to support sound financial decision-making and alignment with government priorities.
The Role
This is a high-impact executive leadership opportunity overseeing the Corporate and Economy Sector pod, leading critical corporate budget functions including the provincial budget development process and management of the Contingencies Vote. The role supports government-wide fiscal strategies and provides strategic advice to Treasury Board, Cabinet, and the Minister of Finance.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- A university degree (graduate level preferred) with emphasis on economics, business administration, public administration, finance, or closely related discipline; or completion of a recognized professional accounting program. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience providing strategic leadership to diverse groups of multi-disciplinary staff and in developing teams of high-performing, highly skilled professionals and establishing strong relationships across the BC Public Service.
- Experience delivering effective briefings and presenting complex issues and advice to senior government and elected officials including financial policy and program recommendations.
- Demonstrated experience conducting high-level problem solving and analysis, and issue resolution in situations demanding confidentiality, discretion and excellent judgement and decision-making skills.
- Proven experience aligning objectives, people, and processes to deliver high-quality work within tight time constraints in a demanding environment where direction can shift rapidly.
- Preference may be given to candidates with executive public sector central agency experience and/or a minimum of 5 years of experience.
