The Team
The New Westminster Law Courts Court Registry Clerk team is a diverse and collaborative group comprising the largest integrated court location in the province. This established team works both in the court registry and the courtroom. Court Registry Clerks interact with the judiciary, crown counsel, defense counsel, and court users to provide essential access to justice and administrative support. The Role
As a Court Registry Clerk at New Westminster Law Courts, you will be responsible for various tasks that ensure the smooth operation of court proceedings both in and out of the courtroom. Your duties will include preparing the courtroom and files, recording attendance, prioritizing court lists, operating courtroom technology, exhibit management, and performing post-court duties such as ordering transcripts and preparing invoices. Additionally, you will provide client service to members of the public and justice partners as they navigate the court system. This position plays a crucial role in providing access to justice and ensuring timely responses, contributing to overall service excellence. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Secondary school graduation or equivalent (GED)
- Must have 2 years’ experience working in an office environment OR 2 years’ combination of customer service, clerical duties, office experience and education.
- Must have a minimum of 1 year experience in keyboarding, data entry, word processing, standard computer applications and software programs (e.g., Windows, MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Must have 40 WPM keyboarding/typing
Combinations of relevant experience, education and/or training may result in an applicant meeting these requirements.
Preference may be given to candidates with:
- Experience in Court Programs and Applications (JUSTIN, CEIS, ARC, CTAS, CCD)
- Experience with delivering Customer Service
- Experience as a court clerk and/or registry clerk
- 1 year of previous work experience in a legal environment
- Experience in accounting services
Provisos:
- Successful completion of enhanced security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check, and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the ministry (Note: It is important that you read the job posting carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position).
- Union membership is required
- Attendance and completion of relevant training is required
- May be required to work flexible hours, including varied shifts and overtime on short notice
- May be required to travel, including travel in adverse weather conditions and work in other geographical areas, including circuit court locations. Must have reliable transportation and/or be willing to travel with others
- Able to lift heavy objects up to 30 lbs
