About the BCLDB:

The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) is one of two branches of government that provide oversight for the beverage alcohol and non-medical cannabis industries in the province. The LDB is responsible for the wholesale distribution of liquor and cannabis, and operates the retails brands BCLIQUOR and BC Cannabis Stores.

LDB’s Information Technology (IT) team consists of 7 competency areas: Customer Experience, Infrastructure & Operations (I&O), Information Security, Enterprise Architecture, Software Services, Data Services, and IT Program Governance. Currently 5 divisions managed by IT Directors collectively are responsible for all the 7 competency areas to deliver the IT mandate of supporting LDB’s corporate and business operations and enabling future needs and initiatives.

At present, the IT team consists of more than 260 full-time employees and includes a sourcing strategy to leverage ex-ternal expertise to ensure the integrated IT team continues to deliver LDB’s strategic initiatives timely and of high quality. 

The IT department of the LDB is responsible for the entire computing infrastructure for all the 230+ BC Liquor Stores, BC Cannabis Stores as well as LDB’s head office in Burnaby and 4 Warehouse/Distribution Centres including Delta, Kamloops, Richmond, and Victoria. The IT department also manages three data centres located in Burnaby, Delta, and Kamloops.

About this role:

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Infrastructure and Operations, the Manager, Data Centre & Cloud Services, is responsible for providing integrated server and storage services (On-premise & Cloud) for the LDB while ensuring high availability, redundancy, effective operations and future capacity capabilities. 

This position is also responsible for analyzing requirements and the architecting, design and implementation of the enterprise computing server and storage infrastructure; maintaining technical currency with related infrastructures; as well as establishing and reporting on KPI’s for these services. 

Must have the ability to travel overnight within the Province of British Columbia. Work schedule may include evenings, weekends, and overnight, rotating between job sites. Attendance at seminars, training, and conferences may be necessary to stay current with industry trends and technologies.

Position Requirements:

Education and Experience:

A degree or diploma in information technology, computer science or related field with a minimum of 5 years of recent, related experience*.

OR

A combination of recent related experience and education may be considered, i.e., 7 years of recent related experience* with formal courses and/or certificates in information technology, computer science or related field.

*Recent, related experience must have occurred in the last 9 years and must include the following:

  • Experience in cross-platform integration and management, including hybrid environments that utilize Microsoft and/or Linux servers (or technology) and virtualization through VMware.
  • Experience in Storage, preferably IBM and/or HPE.
  • Experience in Servers, preferably HPE.
  • Experience in working with MS Azure and or Cloud Services.
  • Experience in positions of progressive responsibility. 
  • Experience in infrastructure management.
  • Experience in working with Data Centre Infrastructure. 

Preference may be given to those candidates with any of the following:

  • Expertise in assessing needs, implementing, and configuring server and storage environments, including disk storage usage and computer power usage.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies across various domains including server, network, desktop, and storage.
  • Experience with cloud-based solutions such as Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS).
  • Experience implementing large-scale infrastructure projects (e.g. over $250,000).
