The Team
The Arrow Fire Zone covers a large and complex area for fire prevention, preparedness and response. The team consists of a Wildfire Officer, four Wildfire Technicians, three Wildfire Assistants, an Ops Assistant, Asset Management Assistant, six Initial Attack Crews and two Unit Crews. Our team manages and coordinates wildfire prevention, preparedness and response throughout the year in a busy zone that typically has some of the highest fire load in the province. Working closely with all members of the team, you will support aspects of zone functions efficiently and effectively. It is our combined strengths and experiences that create a dynamic and well-rounded team.
he Role
This position is responsible for performing a core set of functions related to fire response and fire management. As a Wildfire Assistant at Arrow Fire Zone, your focus is to support an effective and efficient response to wildfires through preparation, planning, and operational application. You will manage a portfolio that may include operational supervision and training, assisting with maintenance of zone facilities and assets, conducting field reviews of crew performance and response, filling coordination roles at the zone and fire centre, and working with partners and clients to establish and lead projects. You will play a vital part in developing operational capacity in the zone by balancing priorities and adapting to the fast-paced needs of the team. Much of the work is field-based with a variety of assignments and you will have opportunities for continued development and learning. This role offers a chance to develop in wildfire prevention, preparedness and response at an officer level behind the scenes while maintaining a field-based perspective.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
• Technical diploma in a field related to forestry or resource management or equivalent, plus 2 seasons recent related experience*; OR
• Grade 12 plus 4 seasons of related experience*; OR
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
*Related experience is defined as operations or other disciplines related to natural resource management.
• Minimum 2 seasons of demonstrated supervisory experience.
Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
• Incident Commander 4 or higher certification.
• Qualified Faller Assessor, Qualified Faller Trainer, Certified Faller, Faller in Training, bucker or industry equivalent.
• Response Officer experience.
• Division supervisor/Division Supervisor trainee or Task force leader/ Task force leader trainee certification.
Provisos:
• A valid Class 5 BC drivers licence or equivalent is required.
Willingness Statements:
• To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures.
• To keep current on emerging issues.
• To take in-house training and certification as required.
• To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
• To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
• To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
• To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned.
• To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.
• To obtain and maintain certification and training for position to meet operational requirements.

About this Position:
