The Team
The Indigenous Community Relations Team is a dedicated and collaborative group focused on building partnerships with First Nations communities and Indigenous-led organizations to strengthen emergency management programs and service delivery. This established team plays a key role in supporting reconciliation and advancing Indigenous-centered approaches to emergency management across British Columbia.
The Role
This position coordinates engagement with First Nations communities and shares information on the four pillars of emergency management: mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. It offers an opportunity to foster mutual respect, support reconciliation, and contribute to building disaster resilience in partnership with Indigenous communities.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Diploma or higher in a related field (eg. First Nations engagement or consultation, Public Administration, etc) and one (1) year of related experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities; OR,
- Certificate in a related field (e.g., First Nations engagement or consultation, Public Administration, etc.) and two (2) years related experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities; OR,
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience planning, coordinating and facilitating special events, workshops or working sessions with external partners.
- Experience developing and implementing tracking and monitoring systems.
- Experience building strong relationships and working as part of a team.
- Experience typing, formatting, and proofreading a variety of documents and materials in Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint,).
Preference may be given to applicants with any of the following:
- Identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit).
- Two (2) years or more experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities.
- Experience conducting research and providing findings and recommendations to support program, product or service development that are culturally relevant.
- Experience in emergency management.
Willingness statements:
- Travel overnight, occasionally, and on operational deployments, up to 2 weeks, to locations anywhere in the province.
- Work on-call and extended hours during emergency activations.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent opportunity available in Surrey, and one (1) permanent opportunity available in Kamloops.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in Kamloops, Surrey, Saanichton and Prince George.
