The Team:
Join the Wildlife Section in the Kootenay Region, an established team of dedicated and highly skilled professionals committed to stewarding wildlife in one of British Columbia’s most ecologically diverse areas. We bring together western science, Indigenous knowledge, and community values to deliver evidence-based solutions to complex wildlife management challenges, from recovering and enhancing wildlife populations to reducing conflicts that impact people and wildlife alike. With seasoned biologists and collaborative partners across government, this is a team where expertise meets purpose every day.
The Role:
This leadership role guides the Kootenay regional wildlife program with a focus on population management, species-at-risk recovery, and reducing human-wildlife conflicts. It involves fostering a strong team culture, ensuring operational excellence, and building meaningful partnerships with Indigenous governments and other partners to advance shared stewardship goals. Working alongside experienced biologists and collaborating with partners across government, this role supports efforts that protect biodiversity, enhance public safety, and uphold cultural and ecological values throughout the region.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Master's degree (or higher) in biological sciences or equivalent and three (3) years of related experience; or,
- Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or equivalent and four (4) years of related experience.
Related Experience may include
- Experience interpreting and applying environmental management legislation and policy.
- Experience leading staff on projects or program delivery.
- Experience negotiating agreements with other levels of government or First Nations.
Professional Registration and Certification Requirements
- Registered or immediately eligible for registration (within six (6) months of employment) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) in BC with the College of Applied Biologists (CAB).
Additional Requirements
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
- Must meet safety standards of WorkSafeBC.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available.
This position can be located in Cranbrook or Nelson.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
