The Team
The East Fraser Youth Probation team is a fast‑paced and well‑established group made up of seven Youth Probation Officers and a restorative justice worker, each bringing diverse experience from social work, corrections, and education. The team works closely with social workers, courts, police, mental health professionals, and community partners to support high‑risk, high‑needs youth. United by a strong commitment to equity, care, and community safety, the team takes pride in helping young people strengthen their wellbeing, reduce re‑offending, and build healthier relationships with their families and communities.

The Role
As a Youth Probation Officer with MCFD, you assess risk, monitor and enforce court‑ordered conditions, and prepare reports that support informed decisions by the court. You build trusting, respectful relationships with youth and families to connect them with programs and supports that reduce the risk of re‑offending and strengthen protective factors. Working through a trauma‑informed and equity‑focused lens, you help young people move away from crime and toward a safer, healthier transition into adulthood—making a meaningful difference for individuals, families, and the wider community.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services field (Human Services field includes Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Counselling, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology and Nursing.

Important Information:

  • All education credentials will be subject to verification and validation as per ministry process.
  • Bachelor’s Degree must be a 4 year degree or an equivalent number credits.
  • In addition, if your education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to have it assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Service.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Experience working as a Partial or Fully Delegated Youth Probation Officer in a Canadian jurisdiction.
  • Experience working as an Adult Probation Officer in a Canadian jurisdiction. 
  • Experience in a justice, educational or social service setting that involves the supervision of young people or adults. 
  • Experience in a justice, educational or social service setting with counselling or conflict resolution. 
  • Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience

Please Note: Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e., from another Canadian Province).

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
