Description

The Team
The Readiness, Response and Recovery Operations Division is an established, province-wide team that leads and coordinates preparedness for, and response to, land-based regional emergencies and disasters. The regional component includes approximately 60 seasonal and permanent staff who work closely with First Nations, local governments, provincial ministries and agencies, federal partners, industry, volunteers, and other emergency management organizations. The team plays a vital role in supporting communities, strengthening coordination across jurisdictions, and continuously improving provincial readiness and resilience. EMCR is known for its collaborative culture and dedicated people who are committed to public service and supporting communities when they need it most.

The Role
This role supports the day-to-day operations of emergency management, including communications, policy guidance, coordination services, resource acquisition and deployment, and direct support to First Nations and local governments. Emergency Management Technicians have a direct impact on public safety by contributing to coordinated responses during emergencies and disasters, such as supporting evacuation alerts and orders during flooding events. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference, work in a dynamic operational environment, and collaborate with a dedicated team focused on protecting the public and supporting communities across the province.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Degree, diploma or certificate in emergency management, public administration, or a related discipline AND a minimum of two (2) years directly related work or volunteer experience*; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
     

*Related experience must include all of the following:

  • Experience working as part of a team, addressing strategic initiatives, and coordinating multi-agency committees or working groups.
  • Experience dealing with natural hazards, risk assessment and/or emergency response.
  • Experience working with standard computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
     

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Experience in the development of procedures, standards, and guidelines.
  • Experience working and engaging with First Nations communities and/or organizations.
  • Experience in the delivery of training programs.
  • Experience with financial administration.
  • Experience and training with Incident Command System and/or BC Emergency Management Systems (BCEMS).
