The Team
You will join the Compliance and Enforcement Unit within the Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs, a team responsible for delivering the Short-Term Rental Accommodations Act—one of government’s high-profile initiatives under the Homes for People plan. Working collaboratively with internal teams, local governments, platforms, and stakeholders, the Branch helps ensure short-term rentals comply with new provincial rules designed to return housing to the long-term market and support communities across B.C.
The Role
In this role, you will respond to complaints and reports of non-compliance with short-term rental legislation and regulations, exercising statutory authority to assess issues and take appropriate enforcement action. You will issue warnings where non-compliance is clear, escalate to investigation where legal sanctions may be considered, and support fair, consistent enforcement that upholds the integrity of the provincial short-term rental framework.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a *related discipline and one (1) year of related experience; or
- Diploma in a *related discipline and two (2) years of related experience; or
- Certificate or coursework in a *related discipline and three (3) years of related experience; or
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- One (1) year experience in database management, records management, organization, and management of evidentiary materials.
- Experience using tact, discretion, judgment and professionalism in handling sensitive and/or confidential information.
*Related discipline includes administrative law, investigation and enforcement, criminology, or equivalent.
Related experience must include:
- the interpretation and application of legislation and policy.
- working in a fast paced, high volume processing environment dealing with a diverse range of clients.
- engaging in conflict resolution.
- providing information services.
- dealing proactively and effectively with others using tact, discretion and sound judgement.
Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
- More years of related experience.
- Experience using Microsoft Excel to create, update, and maintain spreadsheets and reports, along with experience using other Microsoft Office applications.
- Combination of five (5) years administrative experience, education and/or training within the justice or legal system in law enforcement or legal court setting.
- Experience dealing proactively and effectively with others using tact, discretion and sound judgement in the context of compliance and enforcement.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to five (5) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
