The Team:
The Thompson Okanagan Fisheries Team is an established group of up to eight skilled professionals who bring deep local knowledge and passion to safeguarding and enhancing some of the province’s most valued recreational fisheries. This collaborative, service‑driven team partners across the natural resource sector, works closely with First Nations and community organizations, and supports Wildlife and Ecosystems Section Heads to deliver meaningful stewardship, habitat actions, and monitoring that shape sustainable land, forest, and water planning. With a culture rooted in teamwork, inclusivity, and shared purpose, this group plays a vital role in supporting a region that contributes over a third of BC’s angling activity and bolsters the local economy.
The Role:
This opportunity leads statutory decision making under the Wildlife Act for roughly 500 permits each year, provides thoughtful supervision and strategic direction to a knowledgeable team, and represents the Ministry at government to government tables with First Nations. This work directly supports timely, high impact permitting that matters to communities, especially in a region with the highest recreational angling use in the province and exceptional ecosystem diversity.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Master's degree (or higher) in biological sciences or equivalent and three (3) years of related experience; or,
- Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or equivalent and four (4) years of related experience.
Related Experience may include
- Experience interpreting and applying environmental management legislation and policy. Preference may be given to those with this experience in fisheries management.
- Experience leading staff on projects or program delivery.
- Experience negotiating agreements with other levels of government or First Nations.
Professional Registration and Certification Requirements
- Registered or immediately eligible for registration (within six (6) months of employment) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) in BC with the College of Applied Biologists (CAB).
Additional Requirements
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
- Must meet safety standards of WorkSafeBC.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available.
This position is located in Kamloops or Penticton; other locations may be considered.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
