Description


The Team

The Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre (VIRCC) Admin Team provides essential administrative support to the centre and its leadership. Composed of the Warden’s Assistant, three Administrative Assistants, and one Records Clerk, the team works closely with management, the business office, and correctional staff to ensure smooth and efficient daily operations.

Their collective efforts strengthen administrative coordination, support effective offender management, and contribute to the overall safety of the centre and the broader community. Known for their strong collaboration and attention to detail, the team plays a key role in upholding VIRCC’s commitment to safety, accountability, and rehabilitation.


The Role

The Administrative Assistants Team is primarily responsible for providing administrative, secretarial, and clerical support to the three Deputy Wardens and the Assistant Deputy Wardens overseeing Staffing, Standards, Admission and Discharge, as well as front-line reception. The role may also involve rotating into other Clerk 9 designated administrative positions as required.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent (e.g. GED).
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ recent (in the last five (5) years) administrative support experience.
  • Experience/training in keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheet, and other standard computer applications.
  • Experience dealing with confidential matters using sound judgement, tact and diplomacy. 

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Experience providing direct administrative support to senior staff and/or management.
  • Experience organizing and independently managing one’s own workload taking into consideration changing priorities, tight deadlines, volumes of work and available resources.
  • Experience in the mentoring or training of staff.
  • Experience working in a correctional environment or within the justice system.
