The Team
The Commercial Transport Enforcement Officer (CTEO) team is dedicated to ensuring the safety and compliance of commercial vehicles on British Columbia's highways through collaborative enforcement of transportation regulations and thorough inspections. CTEOs work closely with other enforcement personnel, supervisors, road safety coordinators, and external stakeholders, making a critical impact on protecting highway infrastructure and enhancing the overall safety of the transportation network. The Role
The Commercial Transport Enforcement Officer (CTEO) role plays a crucial part in public safety by enforcing compliance within the Transportation Act and Regulations. This position involves conducting vehicle inspections, issuing violation tickets, and advising operators on compliance issues, while also managing inspection stations and coordinating roadside checks. By ensuring that commercial vehicles are roadworthy and meet safety standards, officers reduce the risk of accidents, enhancing overall highway safety for all citizens. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
  • Experience providing customer service in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience interpreting and applying policy and/or procedures.
  • Valid BC Class 5 (minimum) Driver’s Licence in good standing with no more than nine (9) points within the last five(5)year period with no suspensions or prohibitions.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Experience in Road Transportation or Law Enforcement.
  • Experience interpreting and applying acts, regulations, and legislation.
  • Experience delivering and conducting presentations and seminars.

WILLINGNESS STATEMENTS/PROVISOS

  • Must be willing and able to provide your BC commercial driver’s abstract and personal driver’s abstract or the equivalent from another jurisdiction upon request.
  • Must be willing to participate in an info session about the role and its responsibilities, if requested.
  • Must be willing to participate in a physical assessment on-site.
  • Must be willing to travel for an in-person interview on-site.
  • Must be willing and able to work shift work, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays within a 24/7operation. Upon mutual agreement and within operational requirements, work schedules may be flexible.
  • Must be willing and able to travel frequently within an assigned area, which may include travel in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to work outside during periods of inclement weather in hazardous conditions.
  • Must maintain an active/adequate level of physical fitness.
  • Must be willing and able to climb on and crawl under vehicles (which may include constricted spaces) while lifting, pulling, and pushing various equipment used during vehicle inspections and weight checks.
  • Must be willing and able to carry portable scales weighing up to 50lbs each.
  • Will be required to remove unsafe vehicles and drivers from roadways who may become angry, hostile and/or abusive, while demonstrating self-control and professionalism.
  • Must be willing and able to successfully complete and maintain Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) and other certifications as required.
  • Must be willing and able to successfully complete all applicable/required courses and training.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain in good standing Level I First Aid.
  • Must be willing and able to hold Provincial Peace Officer Status.
