The Team
The Local Manager is responsible for both Prince Rupert and Terrace Community Corrections which are comprised of both new and experienced staff.   In Prince Rupert, there is an administrative assistant, three full time probation officers, one .75 probation officer, and one .5 probation officer.  The Terrace office is comprised of an office manager, one senior probation officer, four full time probation officers, one .75 probation officer, and one .5 probation officer.  Both communities are surrounded by strikingly beautiful landscapes and service a much larger geographical area.  The Local Manager and Probation Officers work closely with community and justice partners in multiple communities to increase public safety, reduce reoffending, and lead change

The Role
Reporting to the Regional Director, the Local Manager leads a team of probation officers and administrative staff who provide community supervision, case management, and enforcement services to adults under court or police orders. This role sets the direction for the office, ensuring legislation, policy, and the Community Corrections Division’s Strategic Plan are applied consistently and fairly, with a strong focus on reducing reoffending and protecting community safety. The Local Manager fosters an inclusive, respectful workplace, supports staff development, and works collaboratively with justice partners, community agencies, and victims to deliver responsive and equitable services.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Two (2) years’ experience as a fully trained probation officer (full working level grid 24) within British Columbia (a combination of community corrections related program or policy analyst work, projects, or training may be deemed equivalent).

Willingness statements or provisos

  • Valid British Columbia Driver’s License.
  • Travel to other geographic locations may be required.
  • Evening or weekend work may be required for operational reasons.

About this Position:
This position is based in Prince Rupert or Terrace.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 1 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) and Enhanced Security Screening will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
