Description

The Team
The Indigenous Relations team encapsulates a dedicated group that fosters strong, collaborative relationships with First Nation communities to ensure that BCTS’s activities align with the principles of reconciliation, respect, and mutual benefit. Engagement and collaboration mixed with a passion of forestry-related matters, this team promotes economic opportunities, ensures legal obligations are met, and supports capacity-building initiatives. As well, the team is continually learning in order to perform at the highest level, within the BCTS flexible work arrangements of either; In-Office, On The Road, or Working At Home.

The Role
The Indigenous Relations Liaison at BC Timber Sales (BCTS) plays a pivotal role in fostering strong, respectful, and collaborative relationships with First Nations communities to ensure all interests are respected and integrated into the overall operations. Using values management, this position serves as the primary point of contact between BCTS and First Nation partners, focusing on engagement, consultation, and relationship-building while facilitating responsible timber harvesting practices. The ideal candidate is culturally sensitive, enables successful communication and negotiation in advancing BCTS’s commitment to sustainable forest management.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

Preference will be given to fill this position with a Licensed Scientific Officer, REQ 122589, if a Licensed Scientific Officer is successful this competition will be cancelled.

  • Diploma or degree in a field related to the work of the program area and 2 years of experience related to natural resource or Indigenous Peoples relationship management.
  • Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.


Preference statements

  • Experience with contract management.
  • Experience or education in forestry or natural resource management.
  • Experience or education related to Indigenous Peoples relationship management.
  • Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, social or economic development issues.

Provisos /Willingness statements

  • Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
  • Must be willing to work extended hours with limited notice, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and/or rotary winged aircraft and/or watercraft.

This position is also posted as an LSO2 under REQ 122589.This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Forests offices:  Kamloops, Merritt, Clearwater, or 100 Mile House.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work one (1) or more days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
