BC Timber Sales (BCTS) is a unique program of the Ministry of Forests (MOF). Working collaboratively with regional and district operations, BCTS plans, develops, and auctions a substantial portion of the province’s annual available timber volume. BCTS operates as a for profit entity within a government organization.  Its goal is to provide credible representative price and cost benchmark data for the Market Pricing System through auctions of timber harvested from British Columbia’s public land. BCTS operations are guided by three overarching principles, forest sector safety, reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and sustainable forest management.

The Team:
The Kootenay Lake Field Team is an established group of eight people who work together on everything from planning blocks and roads to ensuring areas reach free-growing status. The Woodlands Supervisor leads the team which consists of Planning and Practices Foresters and Operations Technologists in a supportive, results-focused environment where everyone’s ideas and experiences are valued. The Kootenay Lake Filed Team is a young, energetic team that welcomes diverse perspectives and works together to help BCTS meet its goal of selling 20% of timber volume through fair and competitive auction.
The Role:
As a Woodlands Supervisor, you will lead and support a team of forest professionals and contractors responsible for planning, development, harvesting, road access, and silviculture activities. The Woodlands Supervisor manages the field team budget and helps ensure all operational and contractual work meets legislative and certification standards, supporting sustainable forest management. You will also build positive relationships with local communities and partners, representing BC Timber Sales and contributing to work that benefits people, communities, and the environment

Qualifications:

  • A Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) or be eligible for registration as an RFT with the Forest Professionals of British Columbia (FPBC) and three years of experience in operational forestry such as forest tenures, cut-block and road development, engineering, silviculture, harvest operations or compliance and enforcement.
  • Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

  • A Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) or be eligible for registration as an RFT with the Forest Professionals of BC (FPBC) and four years of experience in operational forestry such as forest tenures, cut-block and road development, engineering, silviculture, harvest operations or compliance and enforcement
  • Six (6) or more months of experience supervising, leading, and mentoring staff.

Provisos:

  • Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork.
  • Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
  • Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and or rotary winged aircraft and or watercraft.
