Job Overview

The Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship (WLRS) is accountable for integrated land and natural resource management, including objective setting for land and marine environments, effectively managing cumulative effects, and advancing reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, environmental sustainability, and economic growth. The Land Use Planning and Cumulative Effects Division (LUPCE) is responsible for leading BC’s land planning and conservation strategies, supported by science and knowledge, that promote and guide the province’s goals for reconciliation with Indigenous Nations, ecosystem health and biodiversity, conservation of wildlife and habitat and economic diversity and sustainability.

The Provincial Planning and Conservation Branch (PPC) provides leadership, policy direction, implementation guidance and coordination for land use planning, conservation strategy, Indigenous Conserved and Protected Areas, and species at risk planning, including Caribou.

The Director, Land and Stewardship Planning is responsible for providing leadership and direction to policy, professional, technical, and scientific staff supporting the development, implementation, and management of the Land Use and Stewardship Habitat Planning program. The Director provides overall expertise in land and stewardship habitat planning to Regional Operations and other cross-government partners.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • A Bachelor or Master’s Degree in a natural resource discipline (e.g. resource management, forestry, agrology, geography, etc.), public administration or planning and a minimum of 3 years’ recent, related experience. 

Recent (within the last 4 years), related experience:

  • Leading and directing large, complex, cross-agency multi-disciplinary project teams and overseeing delivery.
  • Leading engagement and consultation activities with stakeholder groups and communities.
  • Leading program-related business planning, contract management, financial management, and negotiations.
  • Supervising, coaching and managing the performance of multi-disciplinary senior professionals.

Preference may be given to candidates with recent, related experience:

  • working with diverse teams in multiple locations;
  • consulting, engaging and collaborating with Indigenous Peoples regarding program/project planning, design, implementation and/or evaluation; and/or,
  • leading and managing natural resource and/or land-use programs, planning or projects.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
