Description
The Team
Our dynamic and innovative Policy and Engagement team was established in December 2022. The team consists of four senior planning analysts and two senior policy analysts all reporting to the Director. We are dedicated to setting housing targets for municipalities and engaging in planning discussions with these municipalities and First Nations to increase the housing supply. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of addressing the housing crisis in the province with innovative cutting-edge policy approaches.
The Role
In this role, you’ll play a key part in shaping provincial policies, programs, and legislation around housing and land use planning. Your work will involve policy analysis, designing options, and drafting legislation, while also offering guidance to local governments, Indigenous Peoples, and the public. You’ll build and nurture strong relationships with various partners and manage provincial interests on housing and land use issues. Contributing to the solution of the housing crisis and increasing housing availability across the province will be a key focus of this role. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field (e.g., planning, geography, environmental studies, public administration). An equivalent combination of education, training and related experience may be considered.

Minimum three (3) years experience in land use planning and development.

Minimum three (3) years experience in the implementation of policy, programs and/or legislation including options identification and design.

Minimum three (3) years experience researching, analyzing and evaluating regulatory, technical, program-related or broad cross sector issues and information to assess the impact on policy and/or legislation.

Minimum three (3) years experience producing complex and high-level written documentation including policy, draft legislation, ministerial and executive level correspondence, etc.

Minimum three (3) years experience interacting and/or working with senior management and/or Ministry executive.
Preference may be given to applicants with:

Experience in any of the following policy areas: local government housing, local government development approvals processes, preparing official community plans and/or regional growth strategies.

Membership or eligible for membership in the Planning Institute of British Columbia and/or Canadian Institute of Planners.

About this Position:

There is currently one temporary opportunity available until December 31, 2026, which may be extended or become permanent.
This position can be based out of any of the locations listed above. Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to five (5) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
