The Team
The Office of the Fire Commissioner (OFC), within the Corporate Strategic Initiatives branch of the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, is an established team of just under 20 staff who work together to support fire safety and public safety initiatives across British Columbia. The team includes fire service advisors, fire training specialists, and program professionals who collaborate with local governments, fire departments, and fire-related associations. The branch values diverse perspectives and inclusive collaboration to help strengthen fire services and support safer communities across B.C.
The Role
The Junior Policy and Data Analyst supports the Director of Engagement and Policy by conducting research and policy analysis to help inform policy development and decision-making. In this role, you will analyze data from a variety of sources, identify trends, and present findings in clear and accessible ways to support projects, proposals, and strategic planning.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or other relevant field and 1 year of *related experience; OR
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or other relevant field and 2 years of *related experience; OR
- A Diploma in Public Administration, Business Administration, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or other relevant field and 3 years of *related experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
*Related Experience must include all the following:
- Experience researching policy issues and conducting policy analysis.
- Experience managing complex cross government policy and programs.
- Experience working with Oracle‑based enterprise systems (or similar) and databases, including advanced experience using Excel to support reporting generation, data integrity and analysis.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
- Experience working with fire services, emergency response, or public safety data, including the analysis of trends, performance measures, or compliance information to support policy or strategic initiatives.
- Experience translating complex technical or statistical information into clear, accurate, and accessible products for non‑technical audiences, including senior leadership, stakeholders, or the public.
- Experience supporting policy development or evaluation involving multiple partners or jurisdictions, including local governments, fire services, or regulatory bodies.
- Experience conducting policy evaluation using quantitative and qualitative methodologies, including statistical modeling.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
