Job Overview
The Ministry of Children and Family Development provides quality services that ensure positive outcomes for Indigenous and non-Indigenous children and youth and their families including supporting safe, healthy and nurturing environments in which they are strongly connected to their communities and culture. The ministry delivers these services through contracts with external agencies.

The Financial Audit & Assurance team safeguards public funds by conducting financial reviews and risk assessments of contracted service providers across B.C. The team collaborates with ministry partners and community agencies to promote transparency, accountability, and culturally informed financial practices. Team members bring diverse expertise and work together to support better outcomes for children, youth, and families through strong financial stewardship.

The Procurement Finance Officer analyzes financial statements, identifies funding risks, and prepares reports that guide executive decision-making. The role ensures that public funds support essential services for children and families by promoting financial accountability and transparency. This position empowers candidates to apply their analytical skills in a meaningful way, contribute to continuous improvement, and support equitable service delivery across B.C.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Professional Accounting Designation (CPA, CPA-CA, CPA-CGA or CPA-CMA) is required accompanied with a University Degree in business administration, economics, commerce or another relevant discipline.  For the degree, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • At least three (3) years or more of accumulated related financial experience in the following:
    • Experience in financial or value for money auditing.
    • Experience in contract, procurement and risk management.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

  • Experience in leading financial control reviews and/or developing and implementing financial processes
  • Experience working directly with contracted service providers to provide support and resolve issues
  • Experience with Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS)
  • Experience working with and/or leading engagement with First Nations organizations.
  • Experience in providing expert professional advice, information and/or support to senior management on financial management issues.
  • Experience in prioritizing and leading projects and tasks in a dynamic environment with constantly changing priorities and evolving issues.

This position can be based in any MCFD Corporate office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 4 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
