Job Overview
To provide professional geotechnical engineering services pertaining to forestry operations, principally the design, maintenance and deactivation of resource roads. This position reports to an LSO 4 Designated Professional Engineer and is focused on providing seasoned professional services including design works and assessments of geotechnical issues, including geohazards in the assigned area of operation. This job requires a licensed professional Engineer and will be focused on geological/geotechnical engineering services. The position has a strong requirement for field experience and the ability to make judgement based decisions relying on knowledge gained through considerable engineering experience in the Natural Resource Sector.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
• Degree in Geological/Geotechnical/Civil/Forest engineering or equivalent as recognized by the relevant association.
• Must be registered, or immediately*eligible for registration as a fully licensed Professional Engineer with Engineers & Geoscientists of BC (the Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists of BC). *Immediately means you are currently a fully licensed registered Professional Engineer member in good standing in another Canadian jurisdiction and can immediately transfer to EGBC.
• 5 years of recent (within the last 7 years) related engineering experience in geological or geotechnical engineering for infrastructure planning, design and/or construction projects and geohazard risk assessments.
• Field experience monitoring engineering practices, WorkSafeBC and contract compliance.
• Has taken professional responsibility for engineering designs and being the professional of record on construction projects.
Preference may be given to applicants who have:
• 5 years recent (within the last 7 years) engineering experience related to the Natural Resource Sector.
• Experience related to rockfall mechanics, terrain stability assessments, landslide analysis, risk analysis, and/or retaining wall design and construction.
Provisos:
• Ability to obtain a “Class 5” B.C. driver’s licence or already have valid B.C driver’s licence.
• Must be willing and able to work in adverse outdoor conditions and terrain.
• Meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.

About this Position:
This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Forests offices: Nanaimo, Campbell River, Port Alberni, Port McNeill, Powell River, Squamish, or Chilliwack.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
