Job Overview
This position leads a team of 13 staff (with three direct reports) through the full aggregate development lifecycle - from long term planning to identify resource needs, through to identifying and securing potential new aggregate pits, creating development plans, consulting with First Nations, obtaining permits (this position also has delegated authority from the Ministry of Forests to issue permits to both secure land tenure and issue timber cutting permits), extracting the resource in a safe and effective manner, and ultimately, reclaiming the pit.
A key component of this work includes implementing the Aggregate Resource Development Strategic Plan - a multifaceted, client-focused approach to service delivery that includes setting province-wide standards for resource development, short and long-term planning, data management, staff training and succession planning, process streamlining, and building relationships and opportunities for reconciliation with First Nations.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering in fields such as Resource Management, Geology, Geography, Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or another closely related discipline, plus 7 years’ related experience; OR
• Master’s degree in science or engineering in fields such as Resource Management, Geology, Geography, Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or another closely related discipline, plus 5 years’ related experience; OR
• Technical Diploma in the above fields, plus 10 years’ related experience.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Registration (or immediately eligible for registration) with Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. as either a Geoscientist or a Geotechnical Engineer.
Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined currently registered in another Canadian jurisdiction, and able to obtain registration in BC within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
Related Experience must include the following:
• Minimum 5 years’ experience related to characterizing and developing aggregate/mineral resources.
• Minimum 4 years’ experience supervising and/or providing direction to staff or project teams.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience building effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
• At least five (5) years’ experience delivering aggregate services associated with highway development, construction and maintenance.

About this Position:
This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Transportation and Transit offices: Victoria, Coquitlam, Prince George, Kamloops.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home up to 2 days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
