Job Overview
The Senior Structural Evaluation Engineer provides provincial leadership in the development, implementation, interpretation, and advancement of Ministry policies, standards, and engineering methodologies related to bridge load capacity evaluation and the structural performance of highway bridges. The position leads the Ministry’s bridge load evaluation and extraordinary vehicle load programs, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of goods while protecting provincial bridge infrastructure. The role exercises professional engineering oversight of staff and consultants, ensures compliance with regulatory frameworks, and serves as the Ministry’s subject matter expert in matters involving bridge load limits, extraordinary haul approvals, and vehicle configuration impacts on structures.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in structural engineering, or civil engineering with a structural background; AND
• At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the design of bridges, bridge construction, bridge rehabilitation, bridge assessment / inspection and related structures, including experience in dealing with consultants; OR
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Must be registered or immediately eligible for registration as a professional Engineer with Engineers & Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC)*.
*Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as currently registered as a Professional Engineer in another Canadian jurisdiction, and able to obtain registration in BC within 6 months of employment. Applicants must confirm their eligibility with the EGBC.

About this Position:
This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Transportation and Transit offices: Victoria, Prince George, Kamloops, Coquitlam.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
