The Team
The South Island Indigenous Child and Youth Mental Health and the Sooke Child and Youth Mental Health teams are well‑established multi-disciplinary groups having a combined total of 10 professionals who value diversity, professionalism, ongoing professional development, and collaborative planning. The teams work with other internal Ministry programs and community partners to support Indigenous and Non-Indigenous children and youth facing mental health challenges by offering supports with assessment, early intervention, group services, family therapies and individualized treatment tailored to meet their unique needs. The teams strive to support the whole family system to make a meaningful impact on child and youth mental health outcomes.
The Role
In this role you will lead by providing clinical and administrative supervision, direction, and strategic leadership to both the South Island Indigenous Child and Youth Mental Health team and the Sooke Child and Youth Mental Health team. Regular travel to the Sooke office is necessary. The Team Leader contributes to the development and implementation of plans, and manages and evaluates the delivery of mental health services for children, youth, and families in the local community to ensure the team is meeting program goals and deliverables. Through strong relationships and collaboration with local Indigenous leadership, the Team Leader works to ensure Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) services are culturally safe, accessible, and responsive. In this role, you will collaborate and build partnerships with other ministry programs, Indigenous partners, community agencies, hospitals, and schools. As a vital member of this diverse team, your contributions will add to the empowerment of children, youth, and their families to navigate change and recovery with confidence.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in social work (Clinical Specialty or equivalent training/education), Educational Counselling, Clinical Psychology, Child and Youth Care, or equivalent.
Please Note: If your education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to have it assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Service. Education requirements require a comprehensive report by the closing date of the competition. - Three (3) years’ experience in the provision of mental health services to children, youth and their families.
- Experience supervising staff in the provision of mental health or social services to children, youth and their families.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Five (5) or more years of in the provision of mental health services to children, youth and their families.
- Six (6) or more months of experience supervising staff in the provision of mental health or social services to children, youth and their families.
- Six (6) or more months of experience in the provision of mental health or social services to children, youth and their families in Indigenous and/or rural or remote communities.
- Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 1 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
This is a temporary opportunity for one (1) year. This position may be extended.
This position is located in Victoria and regular travel to Sooke is required.
