Job Overview
This position reports to a Licensed Science Officer (LSO) LSO 5 Designated Professional Engineer (DPE), Engineering Group Lead. The position manages the development and implementation of major projects as part of the Disaster Financial Assistance Arrangements (DFAA) Federal Cost Sharing Program for abandoned rail corridors. This includes managing all aspects of Ministry owned abandoned rail corridors in the flood impacted section between Coquihalla Lakes and Princeton, which includes bridges, retaining walls, major and minor culverts, tunnels, surveys, trail management and design. This position also leads budgets, contracts and staff, partner and stakeholder consultation and all rail trail corridor user safety. This position interacts directly with the Area Engineer, Recreation and the Director of Trails and Trails Infrastructure (Stewardship, Planning and Infrastructure, Parks and Recreation Program) on legally established rail trails.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Forestry or Natural Resource Management or a Technical Diploma in a related field (i.e. forestry, forest engineering, survey geomatics, geoscience, construction) or equivalent.
- Registered, or immediately eligible for registration (within six (6) months of employment) as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) with Forest Professionals BC.
- Experience in Natural Resource Management, Resource Road Engineering, Natural Resource Operations and access management.
- Experience in contract and/or project supervision.
- Budget management experience.
Additional Requirements:
- Willing and able to conduct field work which may include travel and outdoor work in all weather conditions and flying in remote locations.
- Willing and able to operate a variety of equipment as required.
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) temporary opportunity available until May 1st, 2028; this may be extended or made permanent.
This position can be located in Penticton, Chilliwack, Vernon, Nelson, Castlegar or Merritt.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in the above locations.
