This is a restricted lateral posting open to employees who hold a Grid 24 base position

Job Overview
This position reports to the Parks and Protected Areas Section Head (Section Head), and is responsible for managing a large number of Park Operator (PO) Agreements (private sector contractual agreements) within a region and which vary in term length from 1-10 years. The longer term 10 year PO Agreements provide a wide variety of services within parks and protected areas and most agreements are for services located in the front country, but agreements also exist for some marine and backcountry park locations.  These often multi-park (bundled) agreements provide services for park visitors in campground and day use areas and include facility operation and maintenance,  revenue collection, public safety and security, provision of additional enhanced recreational services (Service Plus), and maintaining BC Parks brand and customer quality service standards. 

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Degree in Resource Management or Natural Resource Management or related degree (e.g., geography, environmental studies) and three (3) years of directly related experience, of which a minimum two (2) years’ park/recreation management experience and one (1) year of natural resource management; OR  
  • Degree in Business with focus on project and/or contract management in the Natural Resource Sector (e.g. business administration, public administration) with related experience in project and/or contract management including negotiating terms and conditions; OR
  • Two (2) year technical diploma in natural resource management or Parks Management, or related diploma and five (5) years of directly related experience, of which a minimum two (2) years’ park/recreation management and one (1) year of natural resource management. 
  • Experience and/ or training in contract management, including negotiating terms and conditions. 

Related Experience: 

  • Contract management experience includes procurement for services or assets, contract inspection and monitoring, direct financial negotiations, contract agreement writing, dispute resolution. 
  • Park management experience includes development and maintenance of recreation facilities, operation of facilities, management of public and private sector recreation services, and employee and public safety and security). 
  • Natural Resource management experience includes wildlife or vegetation management programs, resource inventory and research, environmental impact assessment, resource use regulations, resource protection, nonconforming use management, First Nations agreements. 

Additional Requirement:

  • Must possess and maintain a Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License.

Provisos /Willingness statements

  • Travel, as necessary, is a requirement; sometimes extensively both within and outside the region and in remote areas for multiple days, by vehicle, boat, air, or foot, in camp conditions and in all weather.

  • This position can be located in Fort St. John, Dawson Creek or Fort Nelson.
  • Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
