The Team
The BC Prosecution Service (BCPS) contributes to the protection of society by preparing for and conducting prosecutions diligently and fairly. The BCPS prosecutes offences under the Criminal Code of Canada, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, and provincial statutes at all court levels, including the Supreme Court of Canada. The BCPS also advises police and government on criminal law matters and develops policies to support consistent, principled prosecutions across the province. The BCPS is led by the Assistant Deputy Attorney General, also known as the Head of the BC Prosecution Service, and is divided into Headquarters, Criminal Appeals & Special Prosecutions (CASP), and five regional teams, each led by Regional Crown Counsel.
The Role
As a senior leader for the BC Prosecution Service (BCPS), the Deputy Regional Crown Counsel plays a vital role in overseeing the delivery of criminal justice for the Vancouver Island & Powell River region. Reporting to the Regional Crown Counsel and as a member of the Regional Management Committee, you will lead with integrity, purpose, and professionalism.
This dynamic role blends leadership, legal expertise, and operational management. You’ll guide and support Crown Counsel in your sub-region, ensure the consistent application of BCPS policies, and contribute to the effective administration of justice. Your responsibilities will span legal oversight, human resource leadership, and administrative functions, with opportunities to take on special projects and contribute to strategic initiatives.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Membership in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of call
- Experience in the practice of criminal law (8 years experience preferred)
- Four (4) years of Crown Counsel experience.
- One (1) year BC Prosecution Service Administrative Crown Counsel or comparable experience, including leading teams in a professional legal environment
- An equivalent combination of experience and advanced education may be considered
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Applicants with more than one (1) year of recent (within the last 5 years) Administrative Crown Counsel or comparable experience, including leading teams in a professional legal environment
Provisos:
- Travel is a requirement of this position.
- As a Crown Counsel Manager, will be required to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

About this Position:
Amendment (April 29): Posting closing date extended to May 8, 2026.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
