Job Overview
Reporting to the Fish and Wildlife Section Head, the Fisheries Biologist will ensure regional program objectives are consistent with provincial goals by developing, implementing and enforcing strategies necessary for the protection of wild and enhanced stocks to accommodate present and future recreational demands through a variety of management techniques including stock assessment, fish culture, restoration and enhancement, habitat protection, land management, planning, research and inventory, and providing diversified and quality angling opportunities.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in biological sciences or related field.
- Minimum four years of related fisheries experience (or an acceptable combination of education and experience), including field-based biological sampling, analysis and reporting, and providing advice within a regulatory regime.
- Registered (or eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology (CAB) within six months of employment. Eligible is defined as possessing, at the time of application, a designation equivalent to the CAB’s RP Bio in another jurisdiction and being able to transfer it to BC within six months of employment.
- Minimum four years of related fisheries experience assessing and monitoring natural resources.
- Must possess and maintain a valid British Columbia Class 5 driver's licence.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Experience in recreational fisheries, stock assessment, and fisheries management.
- Experience in assessing, analyzing and recommending stocking prescriptions for stocked lakes.
