Job Overview
Reporting to a senior bargaining unit supervisor or excluded manager, the Wildfire Rehabilitation Technician provides expertise and advice to others. This role has a strong focus on overseeing and providing guidance to the work of other technical staff and contracted resources and is highly geared to field work based on where fires have occurred. The Wildfire Rehabilitation Technician plays a key role in restoring areas affected by wildfire suppression activities. When required, the position also provides support to the Skeena Region Natural Resource District’s Authorization teams by assisting with permit authorizations.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a natural resource management field and one (1) year of related experience; OR
- Diploma in a natural resource management field and two (2) years of related experience; OR
- Certificate or coursework in a natural resource management field and three (3) years of related experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Preference may be given to those who are registered, or immediately eligible for registration (within six (6) months of employment) as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) or related designation with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). If this preference is applied, confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
Related experience includes the following:
- Experience working in natural resource management.
- Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes that support natural resource management.
- Experience in supervising, leading, coaching, and mentoring staff.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid BC driver’s licence.
- Willingness to conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air, or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- May be required to operate field equipment (i.e., quad, snowmobile).

About this Position:

There is currently one (1) temporary opportunity available for approximately 12 months.
This temporary opportunity may be extended or become permanent.
Board and lodging and relocation expenses do not apply to temporary positions.
This position can be based in any of the following locations: Burns Lake, Houston, Smithers, Vanderhoof.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in the above locations.
